The Unity Group of Chattanooga announced Monday the annual 2022 MLK parade would be canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. Instead, a COVID-19 protocol-compliant gathering will be held at Miller Park.

Participants at the in-person event will be required to wear masks and social distance, according to a news release.

Like in 2021, the organization will also host a week of virtual events via Zoom Jan. 9-16 ahead of the Jan. 17 holiday that is generally marked as a day of service. Facilitators will include the Hamilton County Voters Coalition, Chattanoogans In Action for Love, Equality and Benevolence and the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Branch of the NAACP, among other local individuals.

The release states the week will be themed "Embracing Brotherhood and Sisterhood - Unity in the Community."
