Hamilton County Schools offering school choice application support sessions instead of annual fair

Due to an increase in active COVID-19 cases in Hamilton County, Hamilton County Schools is canceling its annual Future Ready Institute and School Choice Fair, previously scheduled for Jan. 12 at the Chattanooga Convention Center, "in an effort to mitigate the spread of the virus and encourage social distancing," a memo sent to parents states.

Hamilton County Schools Family Resource Center is offering support to families who want help completing the school choice application from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hamilton County Schools board room.

Virtual and in-person support is also available during Family Resource Center office hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Hamilton County Schools Staff Development Center and Jan. 28 at Hillcrest Elementary School.

Appointments are encouraged to maintain safety. For more information email HCSFRC@hcde.org.

The school choice application deadline is Jan. 31, and the district will run the choice lottery on Feb. 9.

Families can choose from 45 open-enrollment schools, 31 Future Ready Institutes, 10 magnet schools and 6 early college/career schools. Available choice lottery seats are listed on the school system's website.

The Hamilton County Schools Board Room is at 3074 Hickory Valley Road, the Staff Development Center is at 1161 W. 40th St., and Hillcrest Elementary is at 4302 Bonny Oaks Drive.
