Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 20-year-old man on Glass Street on Saturday night, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m., officers arrived at the 2400 block of Glass Street to find Derrick Ruffin suffering from gunshot wounds, the release states.
Emergency services transported Ruffin to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.
Investigators said that the shooter involved in the incident was the victim of a robbery attempt.
"Evidence obtained through interview, interrogation and observation indicate that the shooter acted in self-defense," the news release stated.
The investigation is ongoing, and Chattanooga police ask anyone with information to call 423-643-5100 or submit a tip through the CPD mobile app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
