One person is dead after a vehicle pursuit involving a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputy ended with a crash in Soddy-Daisy, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Around 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy observed a Toyota sedan with one headlight on driving north stop on Dayton Pike at Posey Hollow Road. The deputy then observed "what appeared to be a person run across Dayton Pike to the suspect vehicle as it shut off the lights," the release stated.

The deputy attempted to contact the driver of the vehicle, but the driver fled north in the fast lane, eventually turning right onto East Highwater Road.

As the deputy attempted to pull the driver of the Toyota over, the driver turned off the vehicle's lights and sped south on Old Dayton Pike and then south on Dayton Pike, reaching a speed of over 100 miles per hour, according to deputies.

When the Toyota reached the intersection of Dayton Pike and Walden Street in Soddy-Daisy, it left the roadway and crashed into the trees on the east side of the road, investigators said.

The Soddy-Daisy Fire Department responded and pronounced the driver of the Toyota dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol was asked to investigate the scene of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
