One suspect was arrested Monday after a patrol vehicle was struck during a pursuit on Highway 27, according to a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office news release.

Around 6:30 a.m., a deputy observed a vehicle "speeding and driving recklessly on Highway 27 near the Sequoyah Road exit in Soddy-Daisy," the release said. The deputy then attempted to stop the vehicle but ultimately made the decision not to pursue the suspect for safety concerns.

A short time later, the vehicle was spotted along Highway 27 by another deputy who began a second pursuit. The pursuit continued along Highway 27 until the suspect "drove down the grass to get to Signal Mountain Road." The suspect's vehicle then struck the vehicle of the deputy who was pursuing him, the release said.

The suspect left the scene of the collision and continued on before abandoning the car near the 1700 block of Dayton Boulevard, running away from deputies on foot.

Additional law enforcement officers, including from the Red Bank and the Chattanooga police departments, responded to the scene to assist with search efforts.

They eventually found the suspect near the area of Ashmore Road in Red Bank, the release said.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect. The vehicle involved in the chase had a stolen tag, investigators said.

The investigation is ongoing.
