As the omicron surge continues in the Chattanooga region, Hamilton County Schools has begun transitioning some schools to remote learning.

Current state law does not permit the entire school district to shift to remote learning outside of a declared state of emergency, according to Hamilton County Schools. Waivers can be submitted to the state on a school-by-school basis for consideration and approval for a school to move to remote instruction for 5 calendar days.

Due to COVID-19, the following schools have shifted to remote learning:

- Bess T. Shepherd Elementary: Friday, Jan. 28 through Tuesday, Feb. 1

- East Hamilton Middle School: Wednesday, Jan. 26 through Friday, Jan. 28.

- East Ridge High School: Wednesday, Jan. 26 through Friday, Jan. 28.

- Hixson Middle School: Thursday, Jan. 27 through Monday, Jan. 31

- Hunter Middle School: Monday, Jan. 24 through Friday, Jan. 28.

- Ooltewah Middle School: Wednesday, Jan. 26 through Friday, Jan. 28.

- Soddy Daisy Middle School: Friday, Jan. 28 through Monday, Jan. 31.

All after-school and extracurricular activities, including athletics, are also canceled, according to the district.
