87-year-old man dies after crash on Highway 27

An 87-year-old man has died after a crash on the 1300 block of Highway 27 on Saturday, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Investigators determined that a Ford vehicle was traveling north on Highway 27 shortly after 4:30 p.m. when it "veered to the right and off the roadway, into the grass," the release stated.

The driver of the Ford then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross both northbound lanes back to the left and off the roadway a second time, police said. Shortly after, the vehicle began to roll over, coming to a stop in the grass median.

The 87-year-old driver was ejected in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services. Authorities have not released his name.

Police asked anyone with information about the incident to call 423-698-2525 or submit a tip via the Chattanooga Police Department's mobile app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

An investigation is ongoing.
