Starting on Tuesday morning, the Tennessee Department of Transportation will begin a month of lane closures on Interstate 75 in both directions for road construction projects, according to a news release.

Workers will be repairing damaged concrete slabs, performing bridge repairs and installing new pavement markings.

The work will reduce lanes in both directions down to two from mile marker 7, near the Bonny Oaks Drive exit, to mile marker 10, between the Volkswagen Drive and Ooltewah exits, the release states. Work is slated to begin at 9 a.m. on Aug. 2.

"This extended lane closure gives the contractor the ability to work continuously (with the exception of concrete cure times), which will expedite project delivery, minimize the length of time traffic is impacted and provide safer conditions for the motoring public and contract crews," the release states. "Traffic control will be in place, and signage will be posted guiding motorists through the closure. Drivers should be prepared to expect delays and consider an alternate route during this time."
