Former Walker County sheriff's deputy arrested in connection with alleged rape

A former Walker County sheriff's deputy has been arrested on charges including rape, Sheriff Steve Wilson announced Wednesday.

Jerry W. Glover has been charged by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation with the rape of a LaFayette woman May 11 while on duty, Wilson said in a phone interview. Glover is 80, according to the Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, Glover was arrested on charges of rape, violation of oath and false imprisonment by his former colleagues in Wilson's office, the sheriff said.

Glover was booked at the Walker County Jail and was denied bond at his first court appearance Wednesday morning, according to a news release from Sheriff's Office. The Rock Springs resident will appear in Walker County Superior Court for a bond hearing June 9.

"I'm very, very disappointed in the incident and disappointed that former Deputy Glover would commit such a crime," Wilson said.

Glover was assigned to the Court Services Division, Wilson said, where he served warrants and worked at the courthouse.

Wilson said Glover has worked for the sheriff's office three times: most recently for seven years until he was terminated May 27. He worked for the agency 2 1/2 years the first time and five years the second time. Glover also worked for the Atlanta Police Department for 10 years.

On the day of the alleged incident, the LaFayette Police Department requested help from the GBI investigating an alleged rape by a sheriff's deputy. The rape had been reported to police, according to a GBI news release.

The investigation found that Glover allegedly had sex with a woman without her consent while on duty and in uniform, the GBI reported.
