A traffic camera on Hixson Pike was destroyed by a fire investigators believe was intentionally set, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, crews responded to the 2600 block of Hixson Pike after a report of a traffic camera on fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a traffic camera on a pole in flames and used a dry chemical extinguisher to put out the fire.
It was determined through investigation that the incident was an act of arson caused "by someone hanging a motorcycle tire on the pole and setting it on fire," the release stated.
An investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 423-698-2525.
