A crash on Brainerd Road after a car chase involving one vehicle shooting at another left a woman fighting for her life Tuesday evening.

Chattanooga police responded shortly after 9 p.m. to the 3400 block of Brainerd Road, where they found a 49-year-old woman suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to a Wednesday news release. The woman was taken to a local hospital.

"Police were advised that two vehicles, a pickup truck and a BMW, were shooting at one another and driving at excessive speeds through the Brainerd Tunnel," Chattanooga Police Department spokesman Capt. Jerri Sutton said in the release. "The pickup truck struck the female driver's vehicle (Honda) as she tried to move out of its way."

Jay Price, owner of Price Bail Bond, whose building is in the area of crash, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press on Wednesday about the incident.

"When the car sideswiped her, it ejected her from the vehicle, even though she was wearing a sealbelt," he said.

Price said the woman's Honda was stopped by the security columns in front of his building.

"It damanged the safety columns her car had to hit them pretty hard to damage that," he said.
