Deacon Hicks Armor will serve as interim head of school for Notre Dame High School, following a Friday afternoon appointment by Bishop Richard Stika of the Diocese of Knoxville.

The appointment comes two weeks after the private Catholic school's former president, Kyle Schmitt, resigned less than a year into the role and without a stated reason.

In a media release announcing the appointment, Stika said Armor is a Chattanooga native, a Notre Dame alum and a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Armor works as the director of stewardship and strategic planning for the diocese. He also worked as an advisor to Stika on Notre Dame and is a chair on a diocesan planning committee on Chattanooga Catholic schools, according to the announcement. He was ordained as a deacon in 2018.

"This is an important role, and I am eager to help guide Notre Dame High School during this transition period," Armor said in a statement. "I know the school, the Notre Dame community, and I have a great love for the Chattanooga community. This is an exciting time for Catholic schools in Chattanooga. We have a long, successful history educating and forming students in a Christian environment, and we are making plans to build on that tradition."
