A man is dead after a Wednesday morning crash on Interstate 75, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.
Traffic officers arrived at the 900 block of I-75 at 11:56 a.m. and determined a Chevrolet had been traveling north with a dual axle trailer in tow when it suffered a mechanical issue with a wheel. The wheel detached from the trailer and traveled across the concrete barrier to the southbound lane, where it hit another vehicle.
The vehicle that was hit then crashed. The front passenger, a 38-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call 423-698-2525 or submit a tip via the Atlas One app (formerly CPD Mobile app). Tipsters can remain anonymous.
