A car was found submerged in the water at a boat ramp in Possum Creek on Saturday, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Around 8 p.m., deputies arrived at the 1900 block of Lee Pike to find a submerged vehicle, still occupied by one person. Members of the Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Team were able to remove the person from the vehicle, who was then brought to shore where lifesaving measures were attempted, the release stated.

Emergency services pronounced the victim dead at the scene, and the body was transported to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office for further investigation, according to deputies.

Authorities have not released the victim's name.

The investigation is ongoing.
