Chattanooga man arrested, then released, after gang-related fight during Howard graduation at Finley Stadium

The Chattanooga man arrested during a fight at The Howard School's graduation ceremony has been released.

Raphael Torres Garcia Colvin, 53, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office after he refused to comply with deputies who were responding to the call of an altercation shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday night at Finley Stadium.

According to an affidavit from the sheriff's office, Colvin was disrupting the investigation of the ongoing incident and was yelling obscenities at responding deputies while refusing to leave after being ordered to do so multiple times.

"One party attempted to talk Mr. Colvin into leaving, and stop yelling," the affidavit said. It added that Colvin was arrested after once again refusing to comply.

A news release from the sheriff's office said the fight, which broke out in the stands, involved rival gang members who were saying they were going to "shoot the stadium up," according to several 911 calls made during the incident.

The release said the incident involved 20 to 30 people. One woman was injured and was treated by emergency medical service personnel at the scene.

Colvin was booked into Silverdale Detention Center on Friday evening and released Saturday morning on his own recognizance. He is expected to appear before Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge Alex McVeagh on July 26 for a preliminary hearing.
