U.N. groups honor cartoonist Bennett

NEW YORK -- The United Nations Correspondents Association and the U.N. Society of Writers and Artists have announced the winners of the 2010 Ranan Lurie/U.N. Political Cartoon Awards, with a citation to Clay Bennett of the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Bennett was one of two American cartoonists honored among 13 worldwide for their efforts to promote the highest standards of excellence in cartoons that serve to depict the U.N.'s spirit and principles.

First prize went to Brazilian cartoonist Raimundo Waldez Da C. Duarte; second place was awarded to Swiss cartoonist Silvan Wegmann; and third place went to cartoonist Osmani Simanca, also of Brazil.

Ten cartoonists, including Bennett, received citations of excellence.
