Eastdale shooting 3rd 2010 homicide

Chattanooga police were called to the city's third homicide of the year late Saturday.

One person was confirmed dead at the Kanku's market on the corner of Wilcox and Tunnel boulevards in Eastdale, according to police. The incident appeared to be a drive-by shooting, said Lt. Tim Carroll, head of the Chattanooga Police Department's major crimes division.

The shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m., according to Chattanooga police spokeswoman Lt. Kim Noorbergen. Police were looking for a green Chevrolet Suburban thought to be connected to the crime, she said.

An ambulance was seen leaving the scene with a patient while the victim's body remained on the ground beside a gas pump, according to bystanders.

Police would not identify the victims late Saturday.

On Jan. 2, two federal park maintenance workers found 40-year-old Jimmy Yearby in the middle of Sanders Road and called police about 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Carroll. Police pronounced Mr. Yearby dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

On Wednesday, police say a Lookout Valley man dragged Marie Oliver, 27, to death along Cummings Highway. The boyfriend, 36-year-old John Thomas White, has been charged with criminal homicide.
