Former teacher charged in sex sting

A former teacher who is in custody and charged with attempting to molest a child was caught in an undercover sting operation, FBI officials say.

Richard Williams, 47, traveled from Atlanta to Ringgold on Tuesday to meet what he believed to be a child he had conversed with online, according to FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett.

Instead, Mr. Williams met agents with the FBI's Northwest Georgia Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Mr. Williams was a former teacher at Alpharetta High School, according to FBI reports. Efforts to reach Alpharetta High School representatives were unsuccessful.

The suspect is being held in Catoosa County Jail on no bond. He has been charged with criminal attempt of aggravated child molestation and computer pornography and child exploitation, according to Maj. Gary Sisk with the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office.

Mr. Sisk said the FBI was the main agency involved in the arrest, although the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office has an agent on the Northwest Georgia Crimes Against Children Task Force.
