2 charged in burglaries

A 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old Rossville man were arrested after the girl was caught burglarizing a car and got into a fight with the owner, East Ridge police say.

According to police, the homeowner at 5731 Scott St. found the girl in her car, apparently stealing items.

"The homeowner went out to confront the suspect," the release states. "The suspect then hit the victim and a struggle ensued until officers arrived just three minutes later."

Police found several burglarized vehicles on Scott Street, the release states.

The girl, whose name is not being reported because she is a juvenile, was taken to Parkridge East Hospital for injuries she suffered in the struggle with the homeowner, then taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center, where she was charged with burglary of an auto and assault, police said.

Police also arrested Travis W. Burroughs, 18, accusing him of breaking into a garage at 5725 Scott St. and stealing a bicycle and also breaking into two other vehicles.

Burroughs was charged with two counts of burglary of an auto and one count of burglary, the release states.

Burroughs is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court at 5 p.m. Nov. 30.
