Funeral set for slain Walker County dispatcher

The funeral service for slain Walker County 911 dispatcher Theresa Parker will be Saturday, according to officials with the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center. A second visitation period will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at LaFayette First Baptist Church, according to the funeral home.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday at the church, and burial will be in LaFayette City Cemetery.

Family members previously have said they wanted the community to be a part of the memorial service because of the support they've received.

Parker's brother-in-law, John Wilson, told a local TV station that they didn't want to exclude any of the people who had held out hope Parker might be found alive.

"The people that's prayed for us and kept searching for her, we're not gonna close those people off," Wilson said. "If they want to come they can sure be a part of it."

Parker was missing for 3 1/2 years, and her remains were found Sept. 21 along the banks of the Chattooga River near the Alabama state line. Parker's husband, former LaFayette, Ga., city police officer Sam Parker, has been convicted of killing her. He is serving a life term in prison.
