Postal worker charged in theft

A Shelbyville, Tenn., postal worker, charged with stealing nearly $90,000 from the U.S. Postal Service, appeared in federal court Wednesday in Chattanooga.

Christopher Cooper, 48, stole the money over a four-year period beginning in February 2006 and ending in January 2010, special investigators said.

Cooper has pleaded not guilty and his trial date is set for Dec. 14. He could face up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines plus restitution for the money taken.
