Unicoi County Commission members will consider asking the Legislature to limit the state Sunshine Law.

At a commission meeting Monday night, members voted unanimously to have the county attorney draw up a resolution loosening the ban on closed-door meetings by local legislative bodies. A vote is expected at a special meeting Dec. 19, according to the Kingsport Times-News.

Meanwhile, in Sullivan County, Commissioner Bruce Kilgore introduced a resolution last week asking his colleagues to support such a measure.

Frank Gibson, public policy director of the Tennessee Press Association, said Wednesday that the resolution originated with the Tennessee County Commission Association. Gibson said Rhea and Anderson county commissioners have rejected it, Obion and Williamson county commissioners adopted it, and Cannon County took it off a meeting agenda.
