Barry BoldingA Scottsboro, Ala., couple again has been indicted on sex-related charges.
Barry Bolding, a former local bondsman, and his wife, Shelia, were indicted last week after a woman came forward in September to report that she had been sexually abused, Scottsboro Police Department Maj. Ron Latimer said. She was the fourth female to report sexual abuse by the couple, he said.
The other complainants range in age from 16 to 30, and the abuse charged spans a 10-year period, Latimer said. The victims were acquaintances or friends of the Boldings, he said.
The most recent complaint came after the Boldings had been indicted on multiple sex charges in September, police said.
Last Friday, the Jackson County grand jury indicted Barry Bolding on a rape count and Shelia Bolding on a sodomy count, Latimer said. They are accused of abusing an 18-year-old woman at their home in December 2009.
But that woman, now 20, didn't file a police report until the Boldings were indicted on charges against three other woman, Latimer said.
Court records show this is the 12th sex charge against Barry Bolding, whose previous charges include sexual abuse, sodomy and rape. Shelia Bolding's previous charge is a misdemeanor count of sexual abuse, records show.
The Boldings do not have children, officers said.
Barry Bolding, who was general manager for AAA Eagle Bail Bonds, has been barred from doing business at the Scottboro City Jail, officials said.
He no longer works for the bonding company's Scottsboro office, said Faye Mackey, who owns several of the company's offices. But she wouldn't say whether his departure had anything to do with the charges.
In September, Barry Bolding was freed on a $246,000 bond, and he posted a $60,000 bond after his recent arrest, officials said. Shelia Bolding has been released on bond, records show.
The Boldings could not be reached for comment.
The Boldings have an arraignment set for Jan. 11 on their latest charges, according to the Jackson County Clerk's Office. All of the charges will be heard in a pretrial hearing Feb. 21.
