2 local attorneys seek seats on judge panel

Two area lawyers are among 43 applicants for five open seats on the Tennessee Judicial Nominating Commission.

Bradley County attorney Stephen Davis Crump, 44, and Coffee County attorney Clifton N. Miller, 45, have applied for the open positions.

The commission reviews and recommends applicants for vacancies on appellate and state trial courts, according to an Administrative Office of the Courts release.

In his application, Crump wrote he wanted to serve on the commission to "find those people with the humility to possess the great power given a judge coupled with the intellectual capacity to use that authority within the law."

Miller cited his experience practicing in a rural county and wrote that the "selection of qualified candidates to serve as Tennessee's judges is critical to the future of the administration of justice in Tennessee."

June 15 is the deadline for public comments on the applicants.
