Diversity Thanksgiving seeks students' videos

Student teams are invited to participate in a multicultural Thanksgiving video contest for the first Diversity Thanksgiving, which will take place on Nov. 17 at the Volkswagen Conference Center in Chattanooga.

Students are asked to tell their audience how and why they give thanks, according to a news release.

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 7 and the winning videos will be shown at the Diversity Thanksgiving event. The submitting organization will receive a cash prize.

The contest is open to schools, colleges and youth education-oriented groups in the area.

"The contest is a great chance for our youth to get the attention of national and international film gurus," said Deborah Levine, president of the American Diversity Report and organizer of the event.

The judges include comedian and author Kim Wayans; Indian filmmaker Laxmi Dhaul; director of "Voices of Woman Worldwide and VOW-TV" Vinanti Sarkar Castellarin; past chairwoman of the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce Julia Wai-Yin So; and director of the Mariposa Multicultural Museum in New Hampshire David Blair.
