Two masked gunmen attempted to rob the Dollar Tree at 5084 South Terrace on Monday night, police said.

Store employees told police that shortly after 8 p.m. the men entered the store armed, Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said in a news release. The store employees then ran out of the back of the store, Weary said.

The men demanded that a customer give them his wallet, but the customer ran out of the store and hid behind a car, Weary said.

The gunmen then fled. Nothing was stolen and no one was injured, Weary said.

Witnesses described the pair as black and wearing black, hooded jackets, Weary said.

One was described as about 5 feet, 9 inches tll and 140 pounds, with a thin build and armed with a handgun.

The second was described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, Weary said. He had a heavy build and was carrying a shotgun.
