Four men have submitted applications to fill Red Bank's vacant city commission seat, including one who ran for the post in 2010.

Red Bank commissioners are seeking a temporary replacement for former Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska in December.

Ed LeCompte -- a Chattanooga codes enforcement officer who ran against Jones for the Red Bank seat in 2010 -- entered his name in the pool last week.

Also in the running are Tennessee Valley Authority attorney Michael Tindle; Erlanger nurse Kenneth Walsh; and Eddie Pierce, who owns and operates the Red Bank Athletic Shop.

Jones' replacement must be a resident of District 3, which extends from Newberry Street to Stringer's Ridge Tunnel and south of Martin Road.

Whomever the commission appoints will hold the position until the city's November elections. The top vote-getter in the election will finish out the remaining two years of Jones' term.

Red Bank Mayor Monty Millard said the board of commissioners will interview the four candidates during the last week in January and will vote in a new commissioner during their meeting the first week of February.

"We're looking for someone that's independent and free-thinking," said Millard. "Obviously, we're looking for someone who has the city's best interests at heart."
