Mayfield Dairy President Scottie Mayfield said today he's considering a congressional run against U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann.

The 61-year-old milk and ice cream mogul said if he decides to enter the race, he'll run as a Republican. He would join a host of challengers, including Weston Wamp, the son of former congressman Zach Wamp.

Mayfield donated to the elder Wamp for a number of years, according to federal campaign finance records.

Mayfield lives on his family farm in Athens, Tenn., which recently was placed in Tennessee's 3rd Congressional District. Until a few weeks ago, it was in the Knoxville-centric 2nd Congressional District.

In an interview, Mayfield said he would make a final decision within two weeks.

"We need people in Washington, D.C., that care more about their country and their state than they care about themselves," Mayfield said.
