Former employee sues UTC over alleged discrimination

A black female former employee of UTC has sued the university for alleged discrimination in her firing two years ago.

Karen Drake, who is over 40, alleges in her Chancery Court lawsuit filed Tuesday that the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga replaced her with a white female employee she had trained. The replacement was half her age, Drake said.

Then UTC prevented her from finding work elsewhere at the college when her position was eliminated, the lawsuit claims.

In the court documents, Drake is asking for back pay and benefits, her job back and unspecified damages for emotional distress.
