There is no debating that we are more divided than ever.

You say up, and I'll say down. You'll smile, I'll say frown.

Maybe the only person who could bridge the divide is Tiger Woods.

If you did not see that Tiger Woods won the Masters on Sunday at Augusta National, well, congrats on emerging from your coma.

It was a moment bigger than sports. It was a moment that got Donald Trump and Barack Obama to ride the same vibe.

Of course both offered congratulations. Trump went further during a Monday Twitter rampage, sending this message out: "Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday's @TheMasters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!"

Side question: Was (Golf) needed there? Seriously, is there anyone on the planet who does not know which sport Tiger Woods plays? In fact, of all the people on this planet, if we took a poll about who held what job, isn't "Tiger Woods - golfer" up there with any others?

Sure, many folks are still upset about Tiger's failings as a husband and human mistakes away from the course.

OK. I understand that. One of the best things about sports and politics and personal choices is the ability for all of us to root for whatever side we choose. And to root against the opposing side.

That we do so violently, however, is troubling.

Hey, Tiger stumbled in a lot of ways. His body failed him. His personal choices betrayed those who loved him.

But the final scene Sunday afternoon at Augusta National was the stuff of sports movie legend.

In fact, here's betting that Trump wishes Attorney General Bill Barr had released the Mueller Report sometime Sunday afternoon.

In truth, we can't even root for the complete career comeback story any more.

If Rocky made a run these days, we'd focus on his days collecting money for a bookie. If the Bad News Bears clawed their way to the title game, we'd be talking about Coach Buttermaker's Red Stripes in the dugout.

And maybe we should, but I know this: Our current world now defines all of us by our mistakes.

But legacies are crafted by responding to those human mistakes. The lessons, the improvement, the preservation and the accomplishments.

In that way, Tiger was even more of a champion than ever.
