Two young women with ties to Chattanooga are among the latest winners of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation's Power of We scholarship, which gives three $10,000 awards each year to minority students pursuing degrees in health care-related fields.
Chyna Germany, an Antioch, Tennessee, native and rising junior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, will use her $10,000 award to continue her nursing education to become a nurse practitioner with a focus on serving women's needs.
Alexus Smith, a Chattanooga native, will put her $10,000 scholarship toward a similar goal - the nursing major and rising junior at East Tennessee State University has a passion for midwifery and ultimately plans to earn her master's degree in nursing and open birthing centers for low-income women in Chattanooga.
Chyna and Alexus are being honored along with fellow scholarship recipient Kelsey Hulsey, a junior nursing major at Baptist College of Health Sciences, Memphis.
