The Rotary Club of Chattanooga Hamilton Place has embraced Bess T. Shepherd school this year with several ongoing projects. The club reached out to Principal Valerie Brown after she spoke to our club and expressed the school's needs.

Our club contributed $5,000 and received a matching Rotary District #6780 grant for an additional $5,000. We are applying for another matching grant to continue support for a second year.

The matching grants enable our club to support Bess T. Shepherd by purchasing new library furniture, student-guided reading books, landscaping and playground improvements and maintenance. From hands-on physical labor to planning and meeting on this project, our Rotarians have put in more than 100 volunteer hours.

We believe this project is a great example of Rotary's "Service Above Self" motto, and we look forward to continuing to serve this school.
