Earlier this month the Hamilton Family YMCA was presented with the Governor's Award of Excellence for its relief efforts during the Easter 2020 tornado. The award was presented by state representatives of the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives as well as local representatives of this committee.

"Your willingness to serve as a place of refuge for those displaced by the storms providing food, medical care, volunteers and personal items reflects your values and commitment to serving your community," Dave Worland, executive director for the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, said.

Rick Madison, chief operating officer for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, said responding to community needs is at the heart of what the YMCA does.

"Being accessible and nimble during difficult times to the people who count on us the most has never been more important," Madison noted.
