WaterWays, a regional nonprofit focused on empowering communities to protect and restore watersheds where they live, work and play, celebrates the good deeds of the more than 450 volunteers who participated in the Tennessee River Rescue cleanup on Oct. 2.

For 33 years, volunteers from Bradley, Hamilton and Marion counties have removed trash from the Tennessee River and its tributaries, including Lookout Creek, Mountain Creek, North Chickamauga Creek, South Chickamauga Creek, South Mouse Creek, Spring Creek and Suck Creek.

More than 400 bags of collected trash were removed from the waterways, as were 75 tires, car parts, sinks, microwaves, toys, a spool of dynamite wire, construction materials and furniture. Volunteers also rescued a turtle tangled in a fishing net.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who make this event possible. You are making a difference in our community.
