Erlanger sees encouraging improvement in its financial situation

You might not ordinarily consider a $600,000 monthly loss at any organization a good thing.

But with Erlanger Health System's losses in recent months ranging from $1.3 million to $3.9 million, February's loss of about $640,000 was, at a minimum, a significant improvement.

And without the $750,000 the hospital paid in severance in February, it would have made a profit. (It should also be pointed out that Erlanger provided almost $6 million in charity care in February.)

At any rate, we hope the declining losses indicate a real turnaround in the financial picture at Erlanger, which has long provided excellent care to countless residents of Chattanooga and the surrounding region.
