Bredesen will make all Tennesseans proud

Sen. Marco Rubio has gall, coming into Tennessee and telling Tennessee voters that former Gov. Phil Bredesen is "trying to pull a fast one."

What goes between Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio? Strange relationship. She leans on this Florida senator to endorse her in a Tennessee race between former Nashville mayor and great Tennessee Gov. Bredesen.

Blackburn's attacks on Bredesen indicate that she knows nothing about him or she is a liar. While governor, Bredesen took no salary from Tennessee, and he and Mrs. Bredesen lived in their own home instead of the governor's mansion, saving Tennesseans money.

Rubio should tend to Florida and stay out of Tennessee politics. Obviously, Rubio knows nothing about Gov. Bredesen or Tennessee politics.

Just listen to Blackburn and the lack of depth in her ability to address state and national issues that affect Tennesseans. She doesn't hold a candle to Bredesen.

I predict that, if we elect him senator, he will be a senator that we will be proud of.

Columnist unfair to Kavanaugh

Columnist Robin Abcarian (Tuesday, Chattanooga Times editorial page) leaves out so much.

Her list of men guilty of "perversions" includes Al Franken, but omits President Clinton and Harvey Weinstein. Media bias is whitewashing Democrats against whom accusations are more serious than the one accusation against Brett Kavanaugh.

She omits the tendency of serious sexual predators to keep at it: Mr. Clinton, Mr. Trump, Mr. (Bill) Cosby, Mr. Weinstein. No string of women has come forward accusing Mr. Kavanaugh (or Clarence Thomas).

She omits the unreliability of memory. My memory's pretty good, and I've never been drunk, but I don't remember what the teen-aged boy who improperly touched me when I was 7 or 8 looked like (except white).

She omits growing up, becoming more mature. Mr. Kavanaugh has admitted he used to drink a lot up through law school, but unlike Teddy Kennedy, we haven't heard of his drinking a lot lately.

She omits the forgiveness of repented-of, forsaken sins. But, of course, forgiveness follows the love of Christ Jesus who died for our sins. Follow Him.

Danielle Mitchell right for Congress

It has become painfully clear that Congress is not living up to its constitutional duty to keep a check on abuse of presidential power which has become rampant.

Members are so afraid of losing an election or control of Congress that they are turning a blind eye to the chipping away of our democracy that President Trump is engaging in. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann is one of Trump's enablers and we deserve better.

We need representation in Congress that is more sensitive and responsive to constituents' needs and will fight for Medicaid expansion.

Dr. Danielle Mitchell is that person. Being a health care provider, she has seen firsthand the struggles that Tennesseans face when it comes to accessible and affordable health care.

It's time we elect new leaders who are willing to invest in and listen to their constituents and not be enablers of the president.
