Look to Venezuela for what comes next

Venezuela was once South America's richest country. They elected a socialist president, Hugo Chavez, when he ran for president in 1998. Since 2001, when he and his successor (Maduro, 2013) implemented socialist reform, private health care was completely socialized, all higher education became "free," the country banned private ownership of guns, opposition leaders were imprisoned, food and health care shortages became widespread, their economy was destroyed, and their Constitution and elections were suspended. It took only one generation of socialist/progressive rule to destroy this rich country.

If Biden or another Democrat/Socialist candidate is elected this November, the Deep State will run the country, and the same will happen to us.

Trump's character traits are scary

If you're a voter who doesn't believe in mental health science or any science for that matter ... stop! Read no further.

The Mayo Clinic describes someone with "antisocial personality disorder," or sociopathy, as a person with the following signs and symptoms that often require professional help: persistent lying or deceit to exploit others; disregard for right and wrong; being callous, cynical and disrespecting of others; recurring problems with the law including criminal behavior; lack of empathy for others or remorse about harming others; using charm or wit to manipulate others for personal gain or pleasure; impulsiveness and failure to plan ahead; repeatedly violating the rights of others through intimidation and dishonesty; unnecessary risk-taking or dangerous behavior with no regard for others; being consistently irresponsible by repeatedly failing to fulfill work or financial obligations; and failure to consider the negative consequences of behavior or to learn from them.

Remind you of anyone? Scares me. Should scare you, too.

Bennett a cartoonist of highest caliber

I've been a subscriber to the Times Free Press for many years. When I was a youngster, I carried the paper in my home town of Cleveland, Tennessee. I've been an avid reader all of my life. I read several out-of-town papers in addition to the TFP.

Clay Bennett is the best political cartoonist in the country, in my opinion. I used to say that about the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Mike Luckovich, and I still hold Mike in high regard, but Clay is so thoughtful and creative, I cannot think of anyone who can compare to him.

Please don't ever lose him.

Trump gets a pass while Dems attacked?

Arkansas Democrat Gazette contributor Bradley Gitz gets to have a half-page rant on liberal "Bullies, Mobs, and Cowards," (July 9, Chattanooga Free Press editorial page, page B7), applying names like Lenin, Hitler, Stalin and Mao.

In it, he claims "the entire hard-left project, with its long-standing goal of overthrowing the American founding and its principles, is now being aggressively wrapped in the guise of anti-racism ..." Mr. Gitz, how could you write such accusations and leave out the most powerful bullies of our time, our president and the Republican mobs and cowards who support him? The difference in us liberals and you so-called conservatives seems to be that we can actually feel empathy for the plight of the downtrodden, but you just don't seem to get it.

We don't feel that a free society should preserve a false history and stick it in the face of African-Americans. Can you explain how the display of so-called Confederate heroes serves them? How can you condemn "bullies who take pleasure in using social media to destroy reputations and careers" without mentioning Donald Trump and his Twitter attacks?
