Our national park deserves U.S. House support
When I read the July 1 article announcing that Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will get $15 million in federal dollars, it reminded me of all of the wonderful visits I've taken there over the years.
From elementary school field trips to weekend hiking trips with my friends and family from out of town, the park has always been a favorite place to learn and explore. I had noticed on some of my recent visits the deteriorating paths and crumbling roads. It made me sad to see a park I love starting to wear down.
I am so glad to see this new money from the Great American Outdoors Act will go toward fixing these issues so the park will remain open and beautiful for all its visitors.
I am thankful for Sen. Lamar Alexander's leadership on fixing our parks, especially as he is nearing retirement. I hope my representative, Chuck Fleischmann, will follow in his footsteps and be a leader in passing this historic piece of legislation through the House.
