Bennett reveals unvarnished reality
Clay Bennett received harsh criticism in a recent letter to the editor for his Feb. 25 political cartoon.
Admittedly, the blood on Putin's mouth was "disgusting," but not nearly as atrocious and nauseating as the unwarranted, inexcusable and indescribably vicious attack by Putin on Ukraine and its citizens.
Thanks, Clay, for being willing to shake and upset us in our warm homes thousands of miles away, while our Ukrainian brothers and sisters shed their blood daily - the blood that shows on Putin's mouth.

MLB, players: Get it together for fans
We are a baseball family and love attending spring training. Clearwater, Fla., puts you close to the Phillies, Blue Jays and Yankees stadiums. Tickets are cheaper and players routinely give kids autographs and throw balls into the stands.
COVID forced us to cancel our last two spring training trips, but this year, extended family is flying in from all over the country. We will have a wonderful time, but due to the lockout, it's looking like no baseball.
I'm not sure if players or owners are to blame. However, if Derek Jeter is stepping down as a Marlins owner during the middle of the negotiations, it leads me to believe he didn't want to be part of an organization that wasn't committed to supporting players.
Amid all the serious issues people face today, like homelessness, racial injustice and the pandemic, baseball still matters. It's a family tradition that can connect generations and inspire young people.
I am hopeful for a timely agreement as I don't want to explain to our children that there's not going to be a baseball season because of greed. So come on, MLB and players, get it done.

Authentic patriots fight for freedom
Ukrainians risking their lives for freedom. Russian citizens bravely risking arrest to protest a vile incursion by their country's dictator. Capitol Police officers risking life and limb to protect our democracy from an attack by thugs at the direction of our own would-be dictator.
This shows that true patriotism is thriving around the world, and that the ideal of freedom - true freedom - is alive and well.
Thanks to all the authentic patriots everywhere fighting for freedom and democracy.
