It is so painful to read the "Yes" letters on the proposed tax increase that equates money with learning. Not so.

Opponents of the tax increase for schools follow ancient conservative playbook: Attack one proponent, UnifiEd, as a nefarious, radical (liberal, communist, humanist?) organization.

Tax each new apartment in Chattanooga like it is a 150K house. The owners are collecting rent like each one is. Tax problem solved.

Teachers (the good ones) deserve more for what we ask them to do. Give it to them.

[Columnist David] Cook says Hamilton County graduation rates are highest in years. Why and how can school system graduate students unable to read or write? Shameful.

This county must do better by its kids. The increase will hurt a little; not investing in education will hurt a lot.

I am going on 87 (worked from age 18 to 70). Own my property and sure as heck don't need a property tax hike.

Lots of last-minute polling and surveying going on about the tax increase. Who is paid for this? No transparency.

We retired ones are not getting an income increase to offset this proposed high tax increase. Believe we need a housecleaning come election time.
