Joe Wingate has managed to clinch the nomination for District 7 with 67.9 percent of the vote tonight, replacing Donna Horn on the Hamilton County Board of Education.
District 7 is the smallest district in the county with only four public schools scattered in portions of Ooltewah, Apison and East Brainerd.
Wingate, an assistant professor of exercise science and physical education at Chattanooga State Community College, stepped up this year to try and unseat Horn saying it was time to see some new faces on the board.
Horn most recently served as the board vice chairwoman and defended her track record saying there are real problems to address, but said she was confident in the school system's ability to find solutions to them going forward with the support of the County Commission.
