Chattanooga mayoral candidate and three-time former councilman David Crockett says now is the time to strike for 30-minute high-speed rail connection to North Atlanta.

Crockett discussed the impact of high-speed rail at the Chattanooga Municipal Airport this morning.

The proposed connection will enable the city to bring in 100 daily direct flights and completely rejuvenate Chattanooga, Crockett said. The airport needs to expand in preparations.

"That will transform Chattanooga profoundly," Crockett said. "That will add that layer of professional worker, knowledge worker, industry of the mind that was brought to Oak Ridge and NASA and University of Alabama Birmingham."

Crockett cited federal support for high-speed infrastructure and the steel industry by President Donald Trump as a signal to move forward on the plans as quickly and boldly as possible.
