Anthony Byrd defeats incumbent Moses Freeman to take City Council's District 8 seat

Anthony Byrd has claimed the District 8 Chattanooga City Council seat, defeating incumbent Moses Freeman.

Byrd, 41, is a native of Chattanooga and a clerk in Hamilton County's Criminal Court and took 741 votes.

Moses, 78, was elected to the seat in 2013, and has been a strong activist and leader in Chattanooga over the decades. He received 544 votes.

District 8 includes the neighborhoods of Eastside, Amnicola, Avondale and Bushtown.

Thomas Kunesh, 60, also ran for the seat and took 94 votes.
