CHATTANOOGA - "Liars figure and figures lie. The one thing for sure is that you can't trust Robin Smith when it comes to numbers. Numbers of dollars she left the state party in debt with; numbers in dollars she used to bonus party staff to work on her campaign; and certainly the number of voters that are accepting her campaign that has no message, no theme and no energy," Jordan Powell, campaign spokesman said.
"Her campaign's touting of a poll that was supposedly conducted by disgraced Governor Mark Sanford's consulting firm is ridiculous. Our internal polling shows a completely different story, and Mrs. Smith feels the need to try and douse the flames on her sinking campaign with some phony poll results.
"Obviously Mrs. Smith's real numbers are showing a different story as well, or she wouldn't spend her entire press release, about the poll, attacking Chuck; as Mrs. Smith has said, 'Desperate candidates often resort to ugly tactics when the end of a losing campaign is in sight.' If losing candidates attack, as Mrs. Smith says, then why is she continuing to attack Chuck in a press release about her supposedly being in the lead?
"If she chooses to ignore the real state of the race that is fine with us, but she will be in for a surprise come August 5th."
