New Wamp TV ad invokes God

NASHVILLE - In a new 30-second ad titled "Here's My Heart," Republican gubernatorial hopeful Zach Wamp puts his religious views front and center and suggests he is the person to help "restore America to its Judeo-Christian heritage and our Constitution."

"The other candidates for governor are spending millions attacking me," the Chattanooga congressman says in the ad, which began airing Tuesday. "But the truth is I have a solid conservative record and the right experience to be our 49th governor.

"And here's my heart," the candidate continues. "I believe God is the center of the universe. He made us to serve him and to serve others. We must restore America to its Judeo-Christian heritage and our Constitution. This can start here in Tennessee. So I want to be your governor."

According to a Mason-Dixon Polling and Research survey conducted last week for the Chattanooga Times Free Press and other major Tennessee newspapers, Wamp is in second place in the Republican gubernatorial primary with 25 percent support.

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam was the frontrunner with 36 percent support, and Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, R-Blountville, came in third with 20 percent. Both Haslam and Ramsey are running ads attacking Wamp, who has aired his own ads attacking Haslam.
