NASHVILLE - More than 100 Tennessee school superintendents are calling on state lawmakers to make no changes to state education standards this year.

"Please do not derail our momentum," said Randy Frazier, president of the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents and director of Weakley County Schools.

The group says 114 school superintendents or directors signed the letter to hold off on changing Common Core standards this year.

A number of Republican lawmakers hope to repeal the standards this session.

Reublican Gov. Bill Haslam has asked them to hold off as he conducts a public review of the math and science standards teachers use to instruct students.

The 114 school leaders represent districts collectively comprising 850,000 or 86 percent of public school students.

There are 141 school districts. Among those signing the letter was Hamilton County School Director Rick Smith.
