Fantasy sports regulation bill advances in Tennessee Senate

While state legislatures around the country consider whether to permit the practice of daily fantasy sports websites, Tennessee lawmakers are leaning toward regulating the industry rather than banning the practice.

The issue is one that a Senate committee addressed on Wednesday, when Sen. Jack Johnson, R-Franklin, presented a bill that would create an advisory task force to oversee fantasy sports.

Daily fantasy has been a booming industry in recent years, with several states taking different responses. Some, including Illinois, have defined fantasy sports as gambling and sought to ban it.
