Whether you've deferred in the past for one reason or another, or you're just entering the age bracket where Medicare can apply to you, the steps to get there are the same, and often they may be confusing to navigate. That's why local agent Misty Bolt is sharing her knowledge with clients and working to educate them on the best choices that make the most sense for their needs.

"If you deferred Medicare because you were working and have group coverage and now are retiring or got furloughed, one of the first things you'll need is a filled out form from social security to your employer showing you have had creditable medical and drug coverage," Bolt began. "This way you won't get a penalty for Part B or D."

Bolt's agency helps you through this part of the process, among many others, so you don't have to worry that you've skipped a step or left out vital information.

"You can also fax or mail that form to the social security office. After obtaining Part B, then we can set an appointment to go over your supplement and prescriptions options."

And in that realm, there are many to choose from. Bolt noted that there are over 40 different companies writing supplements and 10 different supplement plans that clients can choose from.

"This doesn't even include Medicare Advantage plans and drug companies out there," she explained. "To say this can be confusing is an understatement, which is all the more reason to have a trained agent to guide you through every step."

Bolt also strongly advises people to buy locally so they know who they are giving their personal information to.

"When something goes wrong you can go to their office locally," she said. "I have been in the business for over 15 years. I am licensed in 14 states and have 22 agents. I went to college here, and after I graduated, made this my home. My son was born and raised here. Right now is the time to support business locally."

With so much to navigate, Bolt reassured that there are no dumb questions to ask, and even encouraged that people ask every question that comes to mind as they go through it.

"This stuff is hard," she shared. "I have engineers, doctors, and lawyers that cannot figure this out, and that makes sense because they are not supposed to, just like I could not figure out law, medicine or how to build a skyscraper without the training and experience. There's no reason why you should you take on something like Medicare on your own."

Her clients can certainly vouch for having a professional in your corner, as well. Barbara Murnarn began working with Bolt upon her retirement in 2019, and she said her help and guidance made all the difference.

"She came to us highly vetted through our financial advisor, and I knew if he trusted her, I would too," Murnarn shared. "It's not a cookie cutter type of thing, and I felt so good about her background as far as her knowing her vendors and being a broker and not just tied to one company."

Murnarn also noted that while her plan was something more simple as far as finding a supplement that mirrored what she had through her employer, her husband did require something different due to health reasons, and Bolt was able to create plans for both of them that met their needs.

"She came in, listened, did her research, and then made her recommendations," she said. "We aren't a one size fits all people, and her looking at our unique situations and taking everything into consideration makes a difference. I highly recommend her and her services."

Tom Ratledge also shared how he and his wife were thoroughly impressed with Bolt's knowledge of all the different companies and plans.

"She just really knows her stuff," he shared. "She truly just bent over backwards to help us with everything from my pre-existing medications to my wife's just entering the age bracket. For anyone that's looking for this insurance, we tell them where to find Misty."
