The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team defeated Furman twice by 2-0 scores as Southern Conference play opened Saturday at Jim Frost Stadium. The teams play another game at 2 p.m. today.
Tiffany Baker was 3-for-3 with both RBIs, in innings two and five, in the first game, when Kandice Irwin and Brooke Loudermilk combined on a two-hitter with four strikeouts apiece for the win and the save.
Toni Hutchison was 2-for-3 in game two for UTC (10-11), but Jenni Martin had the RBIs with a fourth-inning single after Michelle Fuzzard singled with one out and Baker walked. Fuzzard (4-4) was the winning pitcher with a complete-game four-hitter and eight strikeouts.
