Georgia safety Pugh to transfer

Georgia redshirt sophomore safety Makiri Pugh has decided to transfer in order to seek more playing time, according to an announcement Wednesday by Bulldogs football coach Mark Richt.

The 6-foot, 196-pounder from Charlotte's Independence High School played in nine games last season, tallying two tackles. He was remembered most for testing positive for the H1N1 virus during the height of the campus-wide scare, which caused him to miss the opening trip to Oklahoma State.

"We are appreciative of Makiri's contributions during his two years at Georgia," Richt said. "We understand and support his decision to transfer and wish him great success the remainder of his career."

Fellow safeties Bacarri Rambo, Nick Williams, Jakar Hamilton and Shawn Williams worked ahead of Pugh this spring.

Georgia's turbulent offseason continued this week when backup punter Trent Dittmer, a senior walk-on from Cartersville, was arrested early Tuesday morning in Athens for public intoxication.
